Buffered Or Unbuffered - What’s the Difference?

Unlike regular Vitamin C, Buffered Vitamin C's lower acidity is easier on sensitive stomachs.

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) becomes "Buffered" when a mineral salt is combined with the acid. Because of this, the pH level of Vitamin C becomes more neutral and less acidic. This more neutral pH level makes Buffered Vitamin C easier to digest.

There is no nutrient discrepancy between Buffered and Unbuffered Vitamin C. So you'll get the same element, but be able to take a higher concentration of Vitamin C, maximizing the documented health benefits of this amazing vitamin.

Why Increase Your Vitamin C Levels?

Support upper respiratory health
Similar to Vitamin D, most research reveals that Vitamin C supports the upper respiratory system and immune health, supporting your health year round.

A natural antioxidant
Vitamin C is an antioxidant which helps protect your body against the effects of free radicals at the cellular level.

Free radicals are cell damaging oxygen species formed as a by-product of your body burning fuel (sugar) for energy. You cannot stop it.  However, we can reduce the oxidative stress through the use of antioxidants such as Vitamin C, thereby promoting healthy aging.

Vitamin C is not naturally produced by the body
Unlike most other mammals, humans do not produce Vitamin C. We can only absorb Vitamin C through our diet.

Fruits and vegetables contain high amounts of Vitamin C.

While it is possible to get the amount of Vitamin C you need through a healthy well-maintained diet, for many, that can be difficult to manage.

Promote cellular and cardiovascular health
Research has shown that Vitamin C can help play a role in supporting cellular and immune health and preliminary evidence suggests it helps support cardiovascular health.

Protect and preserve smooth skin
Vitamin C supports skin health by supporting the production of collagen and elastin. This helps keep your skin plump and firm.

The antioxidant properties of Vitamin C help fight free radicals in your skin cells. Through these properties, your skin’s natural regeneration process is aided at the cellular level.

Likewise, Vitamin C halts melanin production which can help improve the appearance of uneven skin.

Why Take Buffered Vitamin C As a Supplement?

While Vitamin C is abundant in fruits and vegetables, it is noted that a majority of adults do not intake the necessary amount of servings each day. Likewise, it can be impractical to expect anyone to meet their necessitated amount of daily Vitamin C based on diet alone.

By taking Vitamin C a supplement, you can ensure that your daily intake is being met while also continuing to eat healthy and meet your nutritional goals. A combination of a healthy diet, exercise and proper vitamin intake is one of the most effective ways to maintain a healthy body, improve emotions, and prevent disease.

Who Is At Risk For Vitamin C Deficiency?

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the difference between “buffered” and “regular” Vitamin C?

Regular Vitamin C is just ascorbic acid. This can be hard on some people’s gastrointestinal systems. However, when the ascorbic acid is “buffered” with the mineral salts potassium, magnesium, or calcium, it is easier on the stomach and allows for higher servings to be taken.

2. Why would I need such high servings of Vitamin C?

Vitamin C is not produced in the human body, but is a very potent antioxidant. Antioxidants protect the body from the effects of free radicals. Free radicals contribute to the aging process. Clarke Bioscience believes in providing safe, high potency servings for the best result to support cardiovascular and immune health.

"Vitamin C is an essential anti-oxidant that reduces oxidative stress in the body. I agree with Linus Pauling that while the seemingly infinite benefits of C are well known, we rarely use it to full advantage in ourselves or our patients."
